An interview with Indah

June 1 2015

Meet our client Indah who is in our first advertising campaign that has just launched help drive donations for our styling and skills workshops.

“I felt lost without the help and support of Dress for Success. I needed help to rediscover my confidence so I could provide for myself and my family as well as make a difference to the people I care for as part of my nursing job.”

How did you find out about Dress For Success?
The University degree qualifications I had secured in Indonesia were not recognised in Australia and sadly through the breakdown of my relationship when I moved here I was forced to find full time work whilst also trying to look after three young children. I found myself unemployed and homeless. I started an English course through Navitas in 2012 and they recommended I also speak with Dress for Success to help secure a job.

Why did you first come to visit Dress for Success Sydney and in what year?
I was initially referred for the job interview dressing and styling workshop in 2013 and Dress for Success let me know about all of the other workshops that were available to me to help find a job. I was amazed they would help me.

What kind of support did you get in the career program?
As soon as I started with Dress for Success I couldn’t believe how many additional services they could offer to increase my confidence finding a job in the nursing. I completed all of the job support programmes including writing a resume, how to look for a job, time management and money management.

What are the three things you learnt that have been invaluable?
It’s hard to choose but the biggest confidence boosters for me were: how to write a good resume, dress appropriately and money management

What advice would you give someone in a similar position to you?
Go and see Dress for Success, go to all the workshops and meet women just like you! Everyone tries to support each other. I would also say don’t panic or stress you will find a job you want!

What are doing now and how do you feel?
I feel confident as now I can provide for my family. I am working as an AIN (Assistant in Nurse) as well as studying full time at university for a Bachelor of Nursing. I am raising my three beautiful children in Australia and I also try to go to the gym regularly to maintain my sanity!
